KIN is a digital media and communications agency for diverse leaders and global companies redefining the next 100 years.

Our brand studio develops personal brands and content for diverse leaders in tech and finance. Our production studio story tells trends across technology, finance, and culture. We’ve worked with teams and leaders at Citibank, Linkedin, IKEA, NowThis and more.

The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is a 3 month internship for students and young professionals eager to explore careers across media, finance, tech, and culture. During this program, you will have a customized experience that includes networking, coaching, formal learning, and opportunities to gain knowledge and technical skills. This program is focused on developing these capabilities: Understanding how media, entertainment, and branding influences finance and tech, understanding our unique startup culture & values, driving outcomes, identifying alternative solutions, proactively communicating your needs and desires to drive an ideal internship experience, and strengthening your relationships and personal brand.

Our inaugural remote class will start June 1 2020 and end August 30 (flexible). Part time and full time unpaid opportunities are available across multiple teams (see below).

Timeline:

  • Application Deadline: May 10th

  • Selection: Interns will be selected on a rolling basis. Apply early.

Terms:

  • Unpaid internship

  • Part time (20 hours) or Full time (40 hours) available

  • Remote

Structure:

  • 1 weekly KIN Meeting (entire company)

  • 1 weekly Team Huddle (30 minute call with manager to align on team specific key performance indicators, KPIs, and expectations)

  • 1 weekly 1-on-1 with your manager (align on KPIs, progress, growth areas, questions, feedback, and purpose development)

  • 1 weekly Work Session (3 hour blocks of virtual coworking)

  • Bi-weekly Speaker Series and Workshops with global leaders in media, finance, tech, and culture

  • Friday Roll Calls/Turn Ups, end of week party to celebrate wins and growth across the team

  • Final Presentation, last week of internship. loved ones invited!


This summer, KIN is focused on 3 areas:

  1. The PaperTrail

    a podcast that unpacks society’s relationship with money and culture globally. Current events are significantly impacting the global economy, we’re on a mission to capture the economy’s new normal with finance media told by and for everyday people. We believe now is an imperative time to invite everyone to the conversation (from multi billionaires to your mom). The Papertrail will merge finance, culture, technology, and soul to deeply connect with people around the world. Through organic conversations between our hosts and guests, we’ll explore how cultures influence money, capital, markets, worth, value, currencies, exchanges, work, income, labor, negotiations, power and more. By sparking a global conversation about money and culture, we’re inspired to unlock the economic power of entire communities and generations. This summer’s team will be bold, creative, and committed our mission, vision, and impact. Inspiration: Gentefied, Parts Unknown, She’s Gotta Have It, The Startup Podcast, The Most Unruly, Trapital.

    we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to develop the personal brands of prolific and diverse leaders globally. We hope to raise the profiles of more diverse leaders so more people around the world have multicultural voices, mentors and role models to follow. We’re looking for proactive, captivating, and thoughtful storytellers to help these leaders share their wisdom on Linkedin, TikTok, Youtube, email, IG, events, press, and more. Each role listed below will be responsible for two brand accounts across KIN, The PaperTrail, and two other clients.

    over the years we’ve become known for our video production, namely our viral IKEA commercial. This team will help build the foundation of our production studio across The PaperTrail Podcast, stock imagery, promotional videos, gifs, and live events. If you’re up for making transformative art as a producer, creative director, motion graphic designer, editor, colorist, podcast audio engineer...then this team is for you.

Here’s how:

Partnerships & Public Relations

Are you naturally a connector, public speaker, and committed to helping match people with solutions? Dream of one day fundraising, starting a company, or becoming a CEO or executive? We’re looking for people to help close new clients/sponsorship and pitch our clients to media platforms for press mentions and appearances. This track is for students interested in building their network, and learning sales and negotiating skills. Interns in this role will be coached directly by our Founder, Erikan Obotetukudo (sales) and Dami Oyefoso at Facebook (public relations).


Social Media & Marketing

Do you have a knack for storytelling on TikTok, IG, Linkedin, or Facebook content? This track is for people who love social media strategy and content creation. We’re looking for minds that discern brand and campaign strategy for across platforms at any given time. Creativity, resourcefulness, and a positive attitude will be crucial in this role. You will take part in campaigns for the PaperTrail Podcast and engaging campaigns for some of the world’s most prominent leaders. Coach: Head of Brand Studio, Destiny Davis.


Video, Photo & Film

Are you a producer, editor, colorist, motion graphics designer, or video essay enthusiast? If you enjoy making captivating, edgy visuals, this track is for you. This summer we’re creating a promotional video for the PaperTrail podcast and stock photos and video from over 30 hours of cinematic footage of West Africa. Beyond that, we’re giving you the creative freedom to play with our video footage to create content that represents your artistic style. Coach: Award winning filmmaker Dewun Owusu.


Web & Graphic Design

Are you an interactive, norm bending visual storyteller? We’re looking for someone to make our media, website, brands, and promotional content come alive. Your contributions are incredibly important as they will shape the KIN aesthetic across our brands. Assets you’ll own include: website design, social media graphics and newsletter/email design. You’re a great fit for this role if you bring your own ideas and can communicate + execute on a visual plan of your design. Coach: Netflix Product Designer, Dara Oke.


Community & Events

Do you love bringing people together, engaging and adding value to people’s lives, and creating out of this world online and IRL experiences to connect? We do too. Creating and cultivating deeply connected tribes is our bread and butter. It’s important to us that all of our brands inherently stand on authentic, engaged, and inspired community. On this track, you will lead the firm and ideally the industry in demonstrating how to make lasting, true, and impactful relationship on and offline. Coached: Sarah Sweeney - TED Conferences organizer turned experience decision and event planner to the hottest events in tech and entertainment.


Podcast Production

The PaperTrail Podcast will be our debut series. We’re on a mission to create a soulful, vibrant, and personal interview series of everyday people + world leaders talking about money and culture. We’ll conduct interviews with executives at financial institutions, small business owners in LA to families in Rwanda, students in India, and so much more. We’re building a team of people who can spot great stories, organize interview logistics, own the audio and recording process, research topics economic, financial, and cultural topics, or create sonic experiences that engage and entice listeners. We’re looking for a hungry powerhouse team to drive this movement around money and culture to new dimension. Coach: Erikan Obotetukudo, Founder of KIN.


Content & Copy Writing

You’ll be the backbone of the KIN brand and aesthetic. You’ll be the wordsmith behind our client’s thought leadership and voice across media platforms. You’ll also help us find our voice through the KIN website and podcast (The PaperTrail). Coach: Jonathan Jackson, Editor in Chief of Red Table Talk.


Research

Are you interested in the intersections of tech, finance, culture, and community? We’re looking for research enthusiasts who are excited to research financial, economic, and cultural stories and factoids worldwide. Your work will be the backbone of our brands, podcasts, film, and commercials. This track will be coached by Netflix Market Researcher Maryann Samson.
